No More Excuses: Why Markus Kaulius Says the Best Time to Change Your Life Is Today

Entrepreneur and author Markus Kaulius joins Get Obsessed to talk about breaking old habits, overcoming setbacks, and why waiting for the perfect moment might be the biggest thing holding you back.

How many times have you told yourself you’ll start something on Monday? Maybe it’s working out, applying for a better job, or finally doing something about that dream you’ve been talking about for years. Monday rolls around, life gets busy, and suddenly you’re making the same promise for the following week.
Sound familiar?
Entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker Markus Kaulius has a few thoughts about that habit. He recently joined Julie Lokun and Mika Altidor on Get Obsessed to discuss personal growth, building better habits, and figuring out how to move forward when life hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.
And considering what he’s been through, he’s got plenty to say.
Everybody Has to Start Somewhere
It’s easy to look at someone successful and assume they’ve always had their life together. We see the accomplishments, businesses, books, and impressive numbers. We don’t always hear about everything that happened before those successes.
Kaulius certainly didn’t have everything figured out as a teenager.
At 15, he found himself in a difficult place and realized he wasn’t particularly happy with the direction his life was heading. He eventually decided that something needed to change, even if he wasn’t entirely sure what that would look like.
Fast-forward several decades, and Kaulius has built a pretty impressive career. He founded Magnum Nutraceuticals, a supplement company that generated more than $170 million in global sales before he sold it in 2023.
Of course, most people listening probably aren’t trying to build a multimillion-dollar supplement company. You might just want to improve your health, switch careers, or stop procrastinating on something important.
As Julie Lokun explored in her article on facing your fears and making meaningful changes, sometimes the hardest part is getting comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Nobody Wants to Hear About Consistency

We love a good success story, particularly one where someone makes a huge decision and everything changes almost immediately.
Unfortunately, life rarely works that way.
Throughout the conversation, Kaulius discusses the importance of developing habits that support the person you want to become. That means showing up regularly, including on days when you’d rather do just about anything else.
It’s a lot less exciting than imagining your future success, but it’s considerably more useful.
In a separate interview, Kaulius offered a wonderfully simple piece of advice:
“Do it today. Do it today.”
There’s something refreshing about advice that doesn’t require purchasing a planner, downloading another productivity app, or watching 15 motivational videos.
If you're struggling to develop better routines, Get Obsessed also explores how to start your day with more purpose, with practical suggestions for building consistency into your mornings.
Sometimes you really do need to get started.
Take a Look at Who’s Around You
Another interesting part of the conversation involves the people we surround ourselves with.
We’ve probably all had someone in our lives who could find a problem with practically any idea we brought up. You mention a new opportunity, and they’re immediately explaining why it won’t work.
Kaulius believes your environment can influence how you approach challenges, particularly when you’re trying to make changes.
That doesn’t mean you need to cut off everyone who disagrees with you. Good friends should be able to tell you when you’re making a questionable decision. There’s a difference, though, between someone offering thoughtful criticism and someone constantly discouraging you.
Julie Lokun touches on this in her article about building confidence and worrying less about other people's opinions. She encourages readers to set boundaries and spend more time with people who genuinely support them.
Your Past Doesn’t Get the Final Say

One of the more personal parts of the episode explores Kaulius’s experience growing up without a father.
Experiences like that can follow someone well into adulthood. They influence relationships, confidence, and sometimes our expectations of ourselves.
Kaulius discusses how he eventually began looking at that experience differently.
“What if my biggest scar was actually my greatest gift?”
That’s a complicated idea, especially for anyone who’s experienced something painful. Nobody should feel obligated to turn every difficult experience into a beautiful life lesson.
It's a subject that also comes up in Get Obsessed's conversation with Simone Gisondi about healing from past trauma and living in survival mode.
It's worth investigating how we interpret our past. An experience can leave a lasting impression on us without shaping complete control of where we go next.
So, What’s Stopping You?
I think most of us already know at least one thing we’d like to change about our lives. The harder part is figuring out why we keep putting it off.
That’s what makes this conversation with Kaulius interesting. His story might be very different from yours, but the subjects he discusses are familiar to anyone who’s struggled with motivation, confidence, or starting over.
You don’t need to overhaul your entire life this week. Pick something you’ve been meaning to do and give it some attention today.
And if Monday comes around? Well, you’ve already started.
